The Gediz Delta, shaped over thousands of years by the Gediz River, is one of Türkiye’s most important wetlands and lies within the districts of Foça, Menemen, Çiğli, and Karşıyaka in Izmir. The delta hosts a complex ecosystem with saline, brackish, and freshwater habitats, including salt meadows, lagoons, and salt marshes.
Within the scope of the project, a participatory approach was adopted to prepare a “Revised Gediz Delta Wetland Management Plan” based on the Ramsar Wetland Management Planning Guidelines, aiming at conservation and sustainable use of the wetland. The project was carried out over one year with contributions from various disciplines, government institutions, and non-governmental organizations.
